The Race

Rathlin Run is now in its 7th year and it continues to be a uniquely challenging fixture in the Northern Ireland running calendar. The 10.8 mile road and cross-country race will take place on Saturday 30th August 2008, attracting up to 250 runners and providing a memorable experience for all.

Rathlin, which lies 6 miles off the coast of Ballycastle, represents a variety of topography and the route of the race will take participants through a series of steep climbing hills. The majority of the race is on a tarmac road but there is a 2 mile section about halfway into the race that is on a gravel track.

Regular water stops are provided and a full first-aid team is on hand to offer assistance if required. The race should only be attempted by those with a reasonable fitness level and who have already completed a similar distance elsewhere.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
o 1st, 2nd & 3rd Male Open
o 1st, 2nd & 3rd Female Open
o 1st Male Veteran Over 40 & 1st Female Veteran Over 40

Entry

The entry fee of £20 includes administration, entertainment, post-race refreshments, a memento of the event and a contribution to Belfast Activity Centre.

In addition, all runners will need to cover the ferry cost to the island and we have given you two options this year - the normal passenger ferry or the fast ferry. You can choose whichever you prefer (subject to availability) - both are at cost. If you do not require a day return and wish to stay overnight on the island please arrange your own transport with the ferry companies. See the entry form for more ferry details.

We are asking each Rathlin Run participant to raise an additional £25 over and above the entry fee. We will assist you in this task by providing ballot tickets. NIAF club members are exempt from this requirement.
